On the afternoon of June 18, AI IX2749 flight from Bengaluru to Surat (India) became a nearly 3-hour nightmare when a passenger - identified as Ayurveda doctor Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai (36 years old) - suddenly caused chaos because of carrying luggage.
According to a report from Kempegowda airport police, Mohanbhai refused to check in despite carrying two large bags. After getting on the plane, she placed a bag near the staff room - a prohibited area for luggage - and brought the remaining bag to the 20F seat.
When the attendants reminded him to move the bag to the storage compartment on his head, Mohanbhai not only did not cooperate but also asked the attendants to keep him. The tension broke out when this person loudly cursed and insulted the crew, then suddenly screamed: "If you hit my bag, I will crash the plane into the ground! ".
The situation quickly got out of control. Some passengers tried to intervene but were also scolded. The captain was forced to activate a security alert and requested the central industrial security force of India to intervene.
From 2:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., all flights were delayed. Mohanbhai was restrained and taken off the plane in a state of intense agitation. Even when detained at the airport police station, she continued to curse, even being accused of attacking the staff on duty.
Mohanbhai's husband - a teacher from Odisha - later arrived, stating that his wife had stopped practicing medicine and was on her way home from Gujarat. He also admitted that his wife has a history of public harassment.
The police are verifying the medical doctor's background and past actions. The "threat of causing air accident" is being seriously investigated. The airport security representative said that this was an "unprecedented case" at Kempegowda airport.
