Mr. Trump may soon announce peace terms for Ukraine

President-elect Donald Trump may present his vision of peace in Ukraine in the coming days, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk predicted that Mr. Donald Trump will give a time frame for a potential ceasefire as well as security guarantees for Ukraine in the coming days.

Throughout his election campaign, Trump repeatedly declared that he would end the Ukrainian conflict within "24 hours" without specifying any details.

The president-elect told US media that he would tell Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "to reach a deal". Trump also implied that he would use more support for Kiev to pressure Moscow into negotiations.

On November 9, Polish Radio quoted Prime Minister Tusk as saying that Mr. Trump's team is still building a roadmap for Ukraine. However, the Polish Prime Minister added that he expected the US president-elect to publicize some important factors in the near future, such as the timeline for a potential ceasefire, the boundaries where the ceasefire will take effect, as well as security guarantees for Ukraine.

On the same day, Prime Minister Tusk announced plans to hold meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer as well as leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries. According to Mr. Tusk, the reason for holding these meetings is the emergence of a "new political landscape" after the 2024 US presidential election when Mr. Donald Trump is re-elected.

The Polish Prime Minister explained that Europe is facing a "serious challenge... in the context of the possible end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict," Politico reported.

"No one wants the conflict to escalate, at the same time, no one wants Ukraine to weaken or even surrender," Tusk stressed.

The Wall Street Journal said that Trump's team is considering a number of proposals, most of which are aimed at "freezing the conflict and forcing Ukraine to temporarily suspend its efforts to join NATO for at least 20 years".

According to the Wall Street Journal, among the proposals that are being discussed is the establishment of a non-military zone along the current frontline. The article quoted an unnamed advisor of Mr. Trump as noting that European countries will be tasked with maintaining peace here, not the US military or US-funded international organizations such as the United Nations.

The Washington Post reported that Mr. Trump has called Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the conflict in Ukraine and potential solutions to this conflict.

The newspaper reported that the phone call took place on November 7, right after Mr. Trump won the election. Trump is said to have urged Russian leader Putin not to "escalate" the conflict, reminding him of the significant presence of the US military in Europe.

In addition, Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin are said to have spoken about "the goal of peace on the European continent". Mr. Trump expressed his interest in further talks to soon discuss a solution to the Ukrainian conflict.

On November 8, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Russian president was ready for dialogue with Donald Trump, but according to him, there were still no details that could be said about that.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Valdai Discussation Club on November 7, President Putin congratulated Mr. Trump on his victory in the presidential election, and said he did not see anything wrong in calling Mr. Trump.
