Speaking at a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland, US President Donald Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with the current progress in efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
"I will set a new deadline, about 10 or 12 days from today. There is no reason to wait... I want to be generous, but we have not seen any progress yet," Trump said.
Mr. Trump said that the US will impose additional sanctions on Russia and countries that buy and export Russian goods if they do not reach an agreement soon.
On July 14, during a meeting at the Oval Office with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, President Trump said he would impose strong tariffs on Russia's trade partners if they did not reach a ceasefire with Ukraine. The US president said he would impose a 100% secondary tax if no agreement was reached within 50 days.
This means that any country that continues to trade with Russia will face a large tax rate when selling goods to the US.
Despite Russia facing sanctions in the West, it still does trade with many other countries.
