Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy General Director of Thac Ba Hydropower Company, said that, implementing the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Thac Ba Hydropower Plant opened the spillway at 4:00 p.m. on July 28 to urgently bring the upstream water level of the lake to 56.0 m.
Then adjust the aperture to maintain the upstream water level not exceeding 56.0m.



The Deputy Director of this Company explained that due to heavy rain in the basin, the unit opened floodgates through the spillway of the hydropower plant to ensure the safety of the dam and prevent floods.
By 9:00 p.m. the same day, the total discharge was 580 m3/s. The water level has receded to 56.19m.



Previously, at 7:00 a.m. on July 28, the upstream water level of Thac Ba Lake was at 56.21 m, the downstream water level was 24.12 m, the flow to the lake was 490 m3/s, the total flow downstream was 413 m3/s.
Mr. Cuong added that before opening the surface water discharge gate, the unit had sent an official dispatch requesting the People's Committees of Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho and Hanoi provinces to organize notices to all levels of government, people, and organizations operating on rivers and along rivers to proactively respond when the downstream water level rises.
Coordinate with local authorities to propagate to aquaculture facilities, water transport vehicles; ferry terminals, vertical boats; works under construction to proactively take preventive measures to ensure safety of people and property.
