In his speech to the 193-member United Nations General Assembly, Mr Zelensky warned that a dangerous arms race could break out at any time if a solution to the conflict in Eastern Europe was not found.
Mr. Zelensky emphasized that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) serving military purposes have developed rapidly, both in technology and in terms of lethality, especially those used in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Therefore, the Ukrainian leader called on the international community and the United Nations to urgently issue global rules to curb the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the manufacture of weapons and prevent the emergence of nuclear warheads.
President Zelensky said that the rise of AI has made the current arms race the "most explosive" in human history.
Mr Zelensky's comments came just a day after meeting US President Donald Trump at the United Nations, where Mr Trump appeared to show a much tougher stance on the Kremlin.
On September 23, Mr. Trump said that Kiev could reclaim all of its Russian-controlled territory and supported the shot-down of Russian fighter jets if it violated NATO airspace.
However, the US president has refused to impose additional sanctions on Russia - as proposed by his Ukrainian counterpart, while maintaining a "only sell, not give" stance in supplying weapons to Kiev.
According to Mr. Trump's previous argument, Europe is the one that needs to shoulder the responsibility of supporting Kiev both financially and militiaally because the Russia-Ukraine conflict directly affects their security.
