A Russian missile strike “shredded to pieces” a US-made multiple launch rocket system deployed by Ukraine near the border of Kursk province, RT reported, citing information from the Russian Ministry of National Defense on September 16.
According to the statement, Russian reconnaissance forces detected a Ukrainian-operated MLRS М270 multiple rocket launcher moving to a location south of Novy Put - a forested area on the Russian side of the border.
After the launcher's position was secured, it was hit by a ballistic missile. The Russian Ministry of National Defense released a short clip of the attack, filmed at night, showing a powerful explosion among the trees.
The Russian military said that in addition to the launcher, they destroyed about 20 missiles compatible with the US system, an escort vehicle with 10 Ukrainian soldiers.
Last month, Kiev deployed thousands of troops across the border and seized parts of Kursk province, but did not advance further into Russian territory.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the incursion was part of a “victory plan” he planned to present to US President Joe Biden soon.
Since last week, the Russian Ministry of National Defense has reported on the liberation of villages in the Kursk region from Kiev troops.
Russia estimated Ukraine's military losses in the invasion at more than 13,800 troops as of September 16.
