TechCrunch reported that on April 1, Qualcomm officially acquired MovianAI - the artificial intelligence (AI) development department of VinAI company under the ecosystem of Vingroup Corporation. However, the transaction value has not been disclosed.
According to Qualcomm's Vice President of Technology, Mr. Jilei Hou, the acquisition of MovianAI is a clear demonstration of the company's commitment to focusing the necessary resources on research and development, bringing Qualcomm closer to its ambition to become the driving force for the next wave of AI innovation.
Mr. Hou emphasized that excellent talents from VinAI will help Qualcomm enhance its ability to provide advanced AI solutions that can benefit many industries and consumers.
The CEO of VinAI is Dr. Bui Hai Hung, established in 2019. The company mainly focuses on AI products for the automotive industry but also conducts research at higher levels.
With the support of VinGroup, VinAI has created countless modern technology solutions such as in-cabin monitoring, security systems, smart parking systems for automakers and many other customers in the same field.
In a 2023 interview with Forbes, Dr. Bui Hai Hung said that VinAI's staff is about 200 people and is allocated to work in offices in the US, Australia and Hanoi.
According to Dr. Bui Hai Hung, VinAI is expected to contribute to a number of Qualcomm's technology products such as software, processors for smartphones, personal computers and cars.
Dr. Bui Hai Hung affirmed that the expertise of the VinAI team will help Qualcomm speed up the development of innovative solutions to support improving people's living and working habits.
According to TechCrunch, the acquisition of VinAI is the second deal of the leading company in the US chip manufacturing sector this year. Qualcomm previously acquired Edge Impulse - a company specializing in the Internet of Things (IoT) segment of Germany - in early March.
