The 22nd amendment to the US Constitution stipulates that "no one can be elected president more than twice". However, Bannon, an early supporter of President Trump and leader of his 2016 campaign, believes Trump could still win a third term.
"I have a strong belief that President Trump will run for re-election in 2028. I have officially supported him," Bannon told NewsNation on March 19.
A person like Trump only appears once a century if we are lucky. Right now, we have him. He is on fire and I am a strong supporter. I want to see him run for office in 2028, Bannon stressed.
When asked how Trump would get around the constitutional ban on a third term, Bannon said: "We are working on that."
I think we will have some alternative options. Let's wait and see what the definition of term limits is," said the former president of Breitbart News.
"We have seen far beyond the possibility of Trump 2028. We have a lot of plans being implemented. We are not ready to make it public," he added.
When asked whether it was a violent revolution or an insurrection, Bannon replied: No. We are people who strongly believe in democracy. He stressed that Trump's supporters will mobilize voters, including those who are less likely to vote and those who are less interested in politics.
President Trump has repeatedly joked that he could serve more than two terms. In January, he told supporters in Nevada: It would be the greatest honor of my life to serve not just one, two, three or four terms.
Earlier this year, Republican lawmaker Andy Ogles proposed amending the Constitution to allow presidents who have not served two consecutive terms to serve a total of three terms.
The important thing is that we provide President Trump with all the necessary resources to repair the disaster road created by the Biden administration, Ogles said in January.
President Trump was first elected in 2016, defeating former Secretary of State Hillary Trump. He ran for re-election in 2020 but lost to Joe Biden. Last year, Mr. Trump won a second term, defeating Mr. Biden's successor, Vice President Kamala Harris.
The two-term limitation was included in the US Constitution to deal with President Franklin D. Roosevelt serving four consecutive terms. Previously, US presidents usually only served one or two terms.
