Europe has difficulty managing Kiev's financial demands
On September 10 (local time), according to TASS news agency, European governments are facing difficulties in meeting Kiev's billion-dollar financial demands.
The source quoted European officials as warning that they may not be able to pay for all the aid that Ukraine requests. The increase in support for the far-right AfD party in Germany, which opposes financial support for Ukraine, also makes European leaders more cautious about new commitments.
At the end of August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Ukrainian defense budget is short of 27 billion USD, including 8-10 billion USD for weapons purchases and nearly 20 billion USD for salaries. Kiev still aims to mobilize 52 billion USD from partners in 2027, although former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba warned that the country has "touched the ceiling" on the ability to receive international aid.
Canada and Ukraine pave the way for a 100-year partnership
On the same day, Canada and Ukraine signed a declaration aiming to establish a 100-year partnership, including defense and security cooperation.
According to the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a statement in Calgary, Alberta province (Canada), on September 10. The document paves the way for the two countries to sign an official agreement on a 100-year partnership in the near future.
Canada and Ukraine simultaneously signed a declaration on the localization of defense production in the two countries, along with a number of other cooperation projects. The two sides also signed an energy cooperation agreement, allowing Canada to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Ukraine.
Iran causes heavy damage to US facilities in Bahrain
In another development, the Pentagon admitted that Iran had caused serious damage to the facilities of the US 5th Fleet in Bahrain.
According to sources, US Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao said in an interview that Iran's attacks "caused heavy damage to Bahrain". Bahrain is home to the 5th Fleet, responsible for sea areas including the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea and part of the Indian Ocean.
Mr. Hung Cao also confirmed that damage in Bahrain caused the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to "have no place" to dock. He said the US Navy is considering whether to rebuild the destroyed bases in Bahrain.
