US assesses consultation on Russia-Ukraine conflict as substantive; US announces destroying 5 Iranian oil tankers; UK cancels more than 1,000 flights... are noteworthy international news.

US assesses substantive Ukraine talks

On September 8 (local time), according to TASS news agency, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the consultations held in Moscow and Kiev last weekend achieved substantial results.

Those were real negotiations last weekend, both in Kiev and Moscow," Mr. Rubio told reporters in Colombia.

The US Secretary of State made the above assessment when referring to the working trip to Russia and Ukraine of two special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Previously, Mr. Witkoff said that his and Mr. Kushner's goals were to bring Russia and Ukraine closer together, narrow disagreements and establish communication channels. He assessed that the working sessions in Moscow and Kiev were taking place in a positive direction.

US announces destroying 5 Iranian oil tankers

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces destroyed 5 Iranian crude oil tankers on September 8.

According to CENTCOM, this move was made after the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) twice used ballistic missiles against a US Navy warship in the previous 2 days.

CENTCOM forces destroyed 5 Iranian crude oil tankers on September 8," CENTCOM's statement stated.

The above information shows that tensions between the US and Iran continue to develop in a confrontational direction, with military operations targeting targets related to Iran's oil transportation activities.

UK cancels more than 1,000 flights

On the same day, more than 1,000 flights in the UK were canceled after a technical incident disrupted the air traffic control system.

The British National Air Traffic Service (NATS) said it had detected a technical problem in the flight handling system. The incident affected departure operations nationwide, leading to flight delays and cancellations at many airports.

Major airports such as Heathrow, Edinburgh and Manchester are all affected. Flightradar24 data shows that the number of canceled flights at airports across the UK exceeded 1,000 on the evening of September 8.

NATS said it has implemented measures to fix the problem, but the operational recovery process is longer than expected. The agency then announced that the system has been processed and is operating normally again.
