The latest hurricane forecast from the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) says Hurricane Kristy will strengthen into a Category 4 hurricane off the coast of Mexico in the coming days.
The remnants of Tropical Storm Nadine reorganized into Tropical Storm Kristy in the eastern Pacific Ocean on October 21. Because this was not the original circulation of Tropical Storm Nadine, the US National Hurricane Center used the next storm name in the list of names for the eastern Pacific hurricane season.
Hurricane Nadine made landfall near the port city of Belize in Belize on the afternoon of October 19, with sustained winds of 96 km/h. After moving across Central America and Mexico, the storm weakened and dissipated on October 20, with remnants of the storm regenerating in the eastern Pacific.
Hurricane Kristy was about 450 kilometers off the coast of Acapulco, Mexico, on the afternoon of October 21. By the evening of October 22, the latest storm of the 2024 hurricane season had strengthened into a hurricane.
Forecasters at the US National Hurricane Center said Kristy will move west at 15-20 mph over the next few days, moving away from the coast of Mexico.
Hurricane Kristy is expected to rapidly strengthen into a major hurricane later this week. However, the Fox Weather Forecast Center says that Hurricane Kristy is not expected to impact any land areas as it remains over the eastern Pacific Ocean.
In the Atlantic, Hurricane Oscar became a tropical depression on October 22 after making landfall in Cuba as a Category 1 storm on October 20.
