The latest hurricane forecast from the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that Hurricane Kristy will strengthen into a Category 4 hurricane off the coast of Mexico in the coming days.
The remnants of Hurricane Nadine reorganized into Hurricane Kristy in the eastern Pacific on October 21. Since this is not the original circulation of Nadine, the US National Hurricane Center has used the next storm name in the list of named storms for the eastern Pacific hurricane season.
Hurricane Nadine made landfall near the port city of Belize in Belize on the afternoon of October 19, with sustained winds of 96 km/h. After moving across Central America and Mexico, the storm weakened and dissipated on October 20, followed by the remnants of the storm reborn in the eastern Pacific.
Hurricane Kristy was about 450 km from the coast of Acapulco, Mexico on the afternoon of October 21. By the evening of October 22, the latest storm of the 2024 hurricane season had strengthened into a hurricane.
Forecasters at the US National Hurricane Center say Kristy will move west at a speed of 24-32 km/h over the next few days, moving away from the coast of Mexico.
Kristy is expected to quickly strengthen into a major hurricane later this week. However, the Fox Weather Center said that Kristy is not expected to affect any land areas as it is still over the waters of the eastern Pacific.
In the Atlantic, Oscar became a tropical depression on October 22 after making landfall in Cuba as a Category 1 storm on October 20.
