Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that the Russian Ministry of Defense and the city government are strengthening the capital's air defense capabilities.

In an interview with TASS General Director Andrey Kondrashov on August 5 (local time), Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that the number of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) heading towards Moscow has increased significantly in recent months.

Attacks targeting Russia happen almost every day, of which 2/3 of the UAVs are heading towards Moscow," Mr. Sobyanin said.

According to Mr. Sobyanin, the Moscow government is closely coordinating with the Ministry of Defense and air defense forces to ensure security for the capital. The two sides coordinate to deploy air defense combat positions, deploy forces, vehicles and provide necessary support to the army.

Mr. Sobyanin emphasized that localities need to coordinate closely with each other, because this is a common task of the regions. "It is impossible to defend oneself within a single region. We must coordinate like a unified team," he said.

Moscow is organizing information collection from civilian and military radar systems, emergency system 112, people's feedback and video surveillance systems, Mr. Sobyanin said.

This information is processed using digital technology - a field in which the city has a lot of experience - and then is shared 24/7 with all regions and businesses.

A series of UAV interceptor devices are being produced in Moscow to cope with attacks. A volunteer unit has also been established to supplement the army's air defense force.

In addition, the city also strengthens experience exchange in developing comprehensive plans to defend against UAVs, support interception capabilities and deploy other related measures.
