On July 14, US Supreme Court judges overturned an order previously issued by a federal judge in Massachusetts regarding the decisions on the US Department of Education.
A federal judge has re-recruited nearly 1,400 personnel affected by the mass dismissal of the Department of Education and blocked the Trump administration from transferring key functions of the Department of Education to other federal agencies.
Founded by Congress in 1979, the primary role of the US Department of Education includes managing university loans, monitoring student academic performance, and enforcing civil rights in schools. The ministry also provides the federal budget for disadvantaged areas and supports students with disabilities.
Federal law prohibits the US Department of Education from controlling school activities, including teaching programs, guidance and human resources. The authority to decide on these contents belongs to the state and local governments, which provide more than 85% of the budget for public schools.
In March this year, the Trump administration sought to commit to running for the conservative wing over the closure of the US Department of Education.
Although the official dissolution of the ministry would require a law from Congress, the personnel cut announced by Education Minister Linda McMahon in March aims to cut the number of ministries' staff to about half compared to when Mr. Trump took office as president in January.
