Sharing on British podcast The Rest is Politics, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Washington ignored evidence of Russia supporting Iran in attacking US bases.
In this interview, President Zelensky revealed that he has repeatedly made efforts to attract the White House's attention to the close cooperation between Moscow and Tehran.
According to the Ukrainian leader, Russian military satellites have taken detailed photos of important energy infrastructure in Israel, Gulf countries and the exact locations of US military bases in the region. This valuable intelligence data was then transferred by Russia to Iran to serve more accurate attacks targeting US targets.
He frankly stated that the problem lies in Washington's overconfidence in Russian President Vladimir Putin's commitments and called it a regrettable mistake. At the same time, he also expressed skepticism about US President Donald Trump's negotiating team when they spent too much time in Moscow but never visited Kiev to understand the reality of the battlefield.
In response to accusations from Ukraine and the West, the Kremlin has repeatedly denied them. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova affirmed that accusations about Russia supporting Iran in attacking US targets are "completely unfounded" and "provocative".
The Russian side emphasized that the cooperation relationship between Moscow and Tehran is completely based on international law, focusing on the economic and defense-self-defense fields, not aimed at any third party.
On Washington's side, although Mr. Zelensky said that the US is "too confident" in President Putin's commitments, in fact the US has imposed a series of sanctions on both Russia and Iran for this military cooperation.
The Ukrainian leader affirmed that he understands Mr. Putin's psychology better than the White House. He warned that Russia will not stop at Donbass but will continue to target strategic cities such as Dnipro and Kharkiv even if a temporary peace agreement is reached.
Concluding the discussion, Mr. Zelensky called on European countries such as the UK, Turkey and Norway to actively link with Ukraine to build a strong enough military bloc to deter Russia. This becomes even more urgent in the context that the US is signaling threats to withdraw from NATO, forcing Europe to be more autonomous in protecting its maritime and territorial security.
