In the strongest cold wave affecting northern regions along the Yangtze River, temperatures in China are expected to drop by as much as 10 degrees Celsius, with temperatures possibly dropping as low as 14 degrees Celsius in some areas, DimSum Daily reported.
This week, China's National Meteorological Center issued a warning for China's latest cold air wave for Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia and other regions.
The latest weather forecast from the China National Meteorological Center notes that from October 18 to 19, temperatures will drop by 8 to 10 degrees Celsius in some eastern areas of northwest China, northeast China, east of the Huanghuai River, east of the Jianghuai River, east of the Jianghan River and northeast of Jiangnan.
Northern and eastern parts of north China, along with central and southern parts of northeast China, could see temperatures drop by 10 to 12 degrees Celsius, with some areas dropping by more than 14 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures in most parts of northern China are forecast to drop to single digits from October 19, with 0 degrees Celsius expected to hit central northern China over the weekend and reach central Inner Mongolia and northern Hebei by October 20.
Areas such as Shandong, eastern Henan, northern Jiangsu, northern Anhui, eastern Hubei, northern and central Hunan, and northern Guangxi will see heavy rain from October 17 to 19, with some areas in the Shandong Peninsula experiencing heavy rain, with rainfall exceeding 40 mm. In particular, northwest Xinjiang, southeast Tibet, and other areas are likely to see moderate to heavy snowfall or hail. Northwest Xinjiang is even likely to see heavy snowfall.
The latest weather report from Xinhua News Agency said that on October 17, Beijing issued a blue alert for the latest cold spell. Accordingly, the city will experience a cold spell lasting from October 18 to 20, with the lowest temperature dropping by more than 10 degrees Celsius.
Zhai Liang, Head of the Forecast Division of the city's Meteorological Administration, said that due to the influence of cold air, Beijing will have rain, strong winds and a significant drop in temperature from October 18 to 20. High mountainous areas of the city are likely to have hail.
From the night of October 18, the temperature in Beijing dropped by 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. It is forecasted that by October 20, the maximum daytime temperature in Beijing will drop to about 10 degrees Celsius, while the minimum nighttime temperature will drop to about 3 degrees Celsius. In mountainous areas, the minimum temperature will drop below 0 degrees Celsius.
Weather forecaster Zhai Liang added that Beijing's temperature will rise slowly starting from October 21.
