China and the EU confirmed the official establishment of the China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism after the first meeting of this mechanism, Xinhua News Agency on June 30 quoted a joint statement from China and the EU.
The two sides identified 4 initial areas of operation under this mechanism, including trade and investment balance, export control, intellectual property rights and WTO reform.
Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency Maros Sefcovic co-chaired the first meeting of this mechanism in Brussels, Belgium on June 29.
According to the announcement, the two sides conducted comprehensive, in-depth and constructive discussions on important economic and trade issues. The two sides also agreed to establish a common monitoring mechanism.
The next meeting between EU and Chinese officials will take place in Beijing in October.
