Implementing the agreement between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and Cambodia, on July 17, 2025, in Hanoi, Central Party Committee member, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Ung Rachana co-chaired the 9th Political Consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and Cambodia.
At the meeting, both sides were pleased to see that in recent times, especially after the High-level Meeting between the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and the Meeting between the three Heads of the three Parties of Vietnam - Cambodia - Laos in February 2025, the relationship between the two countries has had strong development steps and achieved many successes.
Political-diplomatic relations are increasingly trusted, defense-security cooperation continues to be a solid pillar, economic- trade-investment cooperation is developing strongly with two-way trade turnover growing strongly, in 2024 reaching over 10 billion USD and in the first 6 months of 2025 reaching over 6 billion USD, cooperation in other areas such as education - training, culture - tourism, people-to-people exchange, local cooperation is increasingly developing substantially and diversely with many new forms.

On the basis of that achievement and to suit the new situation, the two sides agreed to focus on strengthening close political relations, continuing to deepen security and defense cooperation, expanding trade cooperation, promoting traffic connectivity, border gates, people-to-people exchanges, improving capacity, coordinating well in land boundary demarcation and border management, resolving legal document issues for people of Vietnamese origin; actively exchanging and aiming to sign new Cooperation Agreements.
The two sides agreed to coordinate well to prepare for high-level visits and bilateral cooperation mechanisms, and will soon be Chairman of the CPP Party, Chairman of the Hun Senate attending the 80th Anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Hanoi, the 21st Meeting of the Joint Committee and the 13th Conference on Cooperation and Development of Border Provinces in 2025.
The two sides had in-depth exchanges on a number of international and regional issues, including the East Sea issue and Mekong cooperation; pledged to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums, especially within the framework of the United Nations, ASEAN, and the Mekong sub-region.
The two Heads of Delegations agreed to highly appreciate the cooperation between the two foreign ministries. In recent times, the two Foreign Ministries have promoted their proactive role as a bridge to promote cooperation in areas and between ministries and local branches, contributing to strengthening and deepening the bilateral relationship.
The two sides agreed to organize the 10th Political Consultation between the two Foreign Ministries in Cambodia in 2027.
