Vietnam-Singapore creates new breakthroughs in economic cooperation, towards depth and quality

Vietnam - Singapore agreed to continue to create new breakthroughs to bring economic cooperation into depth, quality, efficiency, and promote high-quality investment capital flows.

On May 29, immediately after the state welcoming ceremony was solemnly held at the Headquarters of the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs according to the highest ceremony for heads of state, General Secretary and President To Lam held talks with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

At the talks, the two leaders expressed their pleasure at the good and comprehensive development of bilateral relations since being upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2025.

In which, deep political trust, close economic cooperation, more close people-to-people exchanges, the two countries are promoting cooperation into key areas such as digital transformation, science and technology, clean energy, carbon credit exchange, network security, emerging technology and financial centers.

General Secretary and President To Lam and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam shared many opinions on the direction of cooperation in the coming time; agreed to continue to deepen political trust, appreciate the increasingly substantive cooperation between the two ruling parties, creating a foundation for strategic connection and long-term cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to continue to create new breakthroughs to bring economic cooperation into depth, quality, and efficiency, promote high-quality two-way investment capital flows, focusing on strategic areas with high added value, and strengthening business connections between the two countries.

Vietnam highly appreciates the ASEAN Power Grid Initiative and will strive to contribute responsibly to the implementation of the initiative because it understands the importance of energy for development, especially science and technology.

President Tharman Shanmugaratnam agreed with General Secretary and President To Lam on promoting science - technology and innovation to become pillars for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including promoting the implementation of the model of connecting the State - Business - Research, linking research with application.

The two sides also agreed to further deepen defense and security cooperation commensurate with the stature of relations and high level of political trust between the two countries, and expand cooperation in new fields.

The two leaders jointly emphasized the importance of strengthening the social foundation for the relationship between the two countries through cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

The two leaders jointly affirmed strengthening effective coordination, mutual support at multilateral forums, supporting multilateralism and consolidating the role of the United Nations in solving global security and development issues, consolidating ASEAN's central role, especially when Singapore assumes the role of ASEAN Chair in 2027 and Vietnam hosts the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2027 Forum; promoting effective, substantive and effective negotiations on the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

General Secretary and President To Lam and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam agreed to promote ministries and sectors to actively implement the agreements reached, bringing the Vietnam - Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a new stage of qualitative development.
