Vietnam emerges as an attractive destination for international investment capital

Strong economic growth, increased FDI flows and prospects for securities upgrades are strengthening Vietnam's attractiveness to international investors.

According to MoneyWeek (UK), Vietnam is emerging as an attractive and highly diversified investment destination, thanks to the combination of strong economic growth, reasonable market valuation and a wave of extensive policy reforms. The event of being upgraded to emerging markets in the near future is expected to open up opportunities to welcome large foreign capital flows, thereby creating more momentum for the Vietnamese stock market.

In addition, according to MoneyWeek's assessment, Vietnam is also becoming one of the notable growth stories for investors. The economy grew by 8% in 2025, ranking 13th in the world.

Vietnam's stock market has a more diverse structure than many countries in Southeast Asia, not too heavily dependent on artificial intelligence (AI) hardware businesses, but has a significant proportion in traditional industries; helping to increase portfolio diversification capabilities.

Economic growth and government reform policies are factors that make Vietnam an attractive investment destination. After 3 decades of developing into a dynamic manufacturing and export center of Asia, Vietnam is entering a new growth phase, with momentum not only from exports but also from domestic consumption, increased household income, the development of the financial market and technology application.

Notably, the Government's reforms focus on developing the private economic sector, promoting investment in research and development (R&D), attracting foreign investment and encouraging the spirit of entrepreneurship.

The above assessments are being reinforced by the actual situation of FDI capital flows. According to Xinhua news agency, Vietnam attracted 34.65 billion USD of committed foreign investment in the first 6 months of 2026, an increase of 61% compared to the same period last year. In the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam attracted 17.39 billion USD of new registered investment capital from 2,013 projects, an increase of 87.2% compared to the same period in 2025. Singapore leads in new registered investment capital, with more than 7.3 billion USD.

The processing and manufacturing industry continues to be the sector attracting the most foreign capital with 17.91 billion USD, ranked above the real estate sector with 5.1 billion USD.

Xinhua said that Vietnam identifies the foreign-invested sector as an important part of the national economy and sets a target that by 2030, 75% of foreign investment will come from developed economies with strengths in technology, capital and modern management; and at the same time attract at least 3 leading technology corporations to locate headquarters, offices or R&D centers in Vietnam. Vietnam also aims to become one of the leading destinations in ASEAN for high-quality FDI projects.
