At the invitation of US President Donald Trump, on January 22, 2026, the Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son attended the signing ceremony of the Peace Council Charter on ending conflict in the Gaza Strip on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland.
President Donald Trump and 19 heads of state and government representatives of countries and territories including Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, UAE, Mongolia signed the Peace Council Charter.
At the signing ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son had exchanges with members of President Donald Trump's cabinet including Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Chief Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and member of the Executive Board Jared Kushner.
Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam appreciates President Donald Trump's efforts in promoting peace, cooperation and prosperity in the world, and is ready to participate in the Peace Council as a founding member.
The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam wishes to soon coordinate with members of the Council in implementing the Gaza Strip Peace Plan approved by the United Nations Security Council in Resolution 2803 dated November 17, 2025, thereby promoting sustainable peace in the Middle East on the basis of Vietnam's consistent stance on the Palestinian issue, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.

The Deputy Prime Minister respectfully conveyed the words of General Secretary To Lam thanking and appreciating President Donald Trump for continuing to support the development of Vietnam-US relations, supporting a "strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous" Vietnam, as well as the invitation of General Secretary To Lam and senior Vietnamese leaders to hope that President Donald Trump and his wife will visit Vietnam soon at a suitable time.
Ministers and members of President Trump's cabinet affirmed that they value and agree to promote the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership relationship into depth and effectiveness, including promoting the early reachment of an agreement on counterpart tax negotiations; and welcomed Vietnam's becoming a founding member of the Peace Council; said that President Trump will arrange to visit Vietnam when conditions permit.
On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son had a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. President Aliyev sent a cordial greeting to General Secretary To Lam and best wishes for the 14th Party Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
President Aliyev also expressed appreciation for Vietnam and General Secretary To Lam's decision to participate in the establishment of the Peace Council and wished the two countries to cooperate closely, share development experiences, thereby making practical contributions to the reconstruction process not only in Gaza but also in the world.
