RT reported that the attack by Russian marines in Kursk province blew up the turret of a Ukrainian tank.
According to a clip posted on Zvezda News, a devastating attack by a kamikaze drone destroyed a Ukrainian tank in Russia's Kursk province.
The short clip posted late on August 27 on social networks is believed to come from Russia's 810th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade - a unit deployed this month to counter Ukraine's attack in Kursk province. .
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the authenticity of the video on August 28, saying the attack took place in Kursk province.
The tank, identified by some media as a Ukrainian T-72M1 tank, is said to have been encountered in the open near the village of Olgovka, about 30km northwest of the border town of Sudzha, currently controlled by Kiev forces.
The video shows the tank in action, moving and firing shells from the main gun, then standing still on a dirt road. The video switches to the drone, showing how the pilot directs patrol rounds to a weak spot at the rear of the turret. The attack was also filmed from another drone.
The impact caused a massive explosion, blowing the turret off the main body and sending it several meters away. The tank was then engulfed in fire and destroyed by secondary explosions.
The video does not indicate whether there was anyone operating the tank at the time it was hit.
The kamikaze killer UAV can be used to destroy damaged and abandoned vehicles on the battlefield so they cannot be recovered by the enemy.
Ukraine sent thousands of troops into Kursk province this month to put pressure on Russia.
The Russian military estimated that the Ukrainian army's losses in this campaign were more than 6,600 troops, 73 tanks, hundreds of other military vehicles and dozens of heavy weapons.
The settlement of Olgovka was listed by the Ministry of Defense in the latest update on the Kursk situation as one of many settlements that the Ukrainian army tried but failed to capture.
