At the invitation of Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Sonexay Siphandone, Politburo member, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Government visited Laos and co-chaired the 47th meeting of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee from January 9-10, 2025.

Vietnam News Agency quoted Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam as saying that the Prime Minister's working trip taking place in the early days of 2025 is very important for both Vietnam and Laos.

Firstly, this is the first foreign visit of a key Vietnamese leader and also the first foreign leader that Laos will welcome in 2025, demonstrating the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

This visit continues to affirm Vietnam's viewpoint and policy of attaching importance to and giving top priority to cooperative relations with Laos in the new context; continuing to further deepen the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Second, within the framework of the 47th Meeting of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee, the two sides will focus on assessing the implementation of the agreement on the Vietnam - Laos cooperation plan in 2024 in all fields; discuss and agree on cooperation directions in 2025 in terms of political relations, diplomacy, defense - security cooperation, economic cooperation, educational cooperation, human resource development and vocational training, and cooperation in other fields of mutual interest.

At the same time, the two sides will discuss in depth measures to create breakthroughs to improve the effectiveness of cooperation, especially in economics, trade and investment. This will not only help Vietnam and Laos develop together and stand firm against risks and challenges caused by increasingly fierce geopolitical competition, but also promote sustainable socio-economic development.

On this occasion, the two sides will hold the Vietnam - Laos Investment Cooperation Conference; the groundbreaking ceremony of the Laos - Vietnam Friendship Park and witness the signing of a number of important cooperation documents.

Third, strengthening connectivity between the two economies of Vietnam and Laos, especially connectivity in terms of institutions, finance - currency, transport infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, agriculture, enterprises, tourism and digital transformation, helps the two countries increase their resilience to impacts from economic and geopolitical fluctuations, while taking advantage of opportunities from new trends for development.

Fourth, the Vietnam-Laos relationship plays an important role in maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia and the world. Therefore, strengthening bilateral cooperation will contribute to consolidating and enhancing the role and position of each country as well as the common voice of the two countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and in regional forums, thereby promoting solidarity and consensus principles in the new context.

Fifth, the visit demonstrates the political determination of the senior leaders of the two Parties and States to continuously deepen and nurture the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos, making it increasingly deeper, practical and effective in all areas in the face of regional and international challenges. This is the guiding principle for the sustainable and stable development of both countries in the future.

Ambassador Nguyen Minh Tam believes that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Laos and co-chairing of the 47th Meeting of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee will be a great success, creating new momentum to contribute to consolidating and nurturing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States, two Governments and peoples of Vietnam and Laos, increasingly deepening, becoming more practical and effective in all fields and forever green and sustainable.
