This year, the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports and the Vietnam Athletics Federation organized the tournament at Bac Lieu Stadium (Ca Mau).
The tournament attracted 477 athletes from 35 units across the country to compete in events for the U20 and U23 age groups.
Notably, for the first time, Vietnamese athletics organized the U23 championship to create a professional playground for promising faces to compete.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation - Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung said that Vietnamese athletics is moving towards organizing age group tournaments to ensure standards and regulations in the Asian system.
Therefore, for the first time, contents for the U23 age group were held.
The entire tournament brought into competition 75 sets of medals in the events for 2 age groups.
In which, the U20 Vietnam athletics championship program has 45 events and the U23 Vietnam athletics championship program has 30 events.
It is expected that the events of the U23 age group will compete including 100m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m, 3,000m obstacle course, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, weightlifting, javelin throwing, discus throwing, 8 mixed sports for men.
For women, there are 100m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m, 3,000m obstacle course, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, weightlifting, discus throw and 7 combined sports.
Teams will hold technical meetings on August 8. After that, the official competition program will be held from August 9 to August 15. 8.
