U23 Vietnam doctor denies using water bottle to prevent Indonesia

Doctor Nguyen Truong An of U23 Vietnam said he did not intend to prevent the U23 Indonesian players from throwing the water bottle at the border.

Returning home after winning the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, Dr. Nguyen Truong An shared frankly about the controversial situation related to the appearance of many bottles of water at the Vietnam team's technical area at the end of the final match.

"I am the doctor in charge of health and medicine of the U23 team. Normally, before the match, I arrange the water bottles neatly so that the players can use them conveniently. But in the last minutes, when the situation was a bit chaotic, the water bottles were no longer neat. It was just a coincidence and had no purpose, said Dr. Nguyen Truong An.

The incident attracted attention when U23 Indonesia midfielder Robi Darwis - a player who is famous for his long-range shots as a fixed situation, could not make a late throw due to a series of bottles of water. After the controversy between the two coaching staff, Robi was forced to change the implementation method, missing the last dangerous opportunity of the home team.

I was surprised to get so much attention, so many people texted me. But the happiest thing is that the whole team won, bringing the championship trophy to Vietnam, added Dr. An.

Doctor Nguyen Truong An and U23 Vietnam returned home on the evening of July 30. In Indonesia, the young players have shown resilience to set an unprecedented record with 3 consecutive Southeast Asian championships.
