Target must win Gold Medal
General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation - Mr. Le Tri Truong confirmed that in 2025, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team will participate in many international tournaments, but the highest goal is still to achieve the medal result of SEA Games 33.
The target assigned by the Department of Physical Training and Sports to the Vietnamese women's volleyball team participating in the 33rd SEA Games is to reach the finals and win the Gold Medal.
"This is a great pressure for the team, but when protecting the 2025 professional plan, the coaching staff of the Women's Volleyball Team shared that they will try their best to compete with the highest determination," Mr. Le Tri Truong added.
In 2025, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the Volleyball Department (Department of Physical Education and Sports) continue to trust the professional preparation of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet to carry out the task with the Vietnam women's volleyball team and the Vietnam U21 youth women's volleyball team. Mr. Kiet has developed a professional program and discussed it specifically, and at the same time, held a program defense session before the professional board of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation. After research, the plan was unanimously approved.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet is an experienced person. Up to now, Mr. Kiet has been with the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team for nearly 3 years (since June 2022). The playing style and training methods of the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team have achieved stability. Mr. Kiet directly instructed his students at the 32nd SEA Games final (May 2023) in Cambodia, but we have not yet defeated the Thai women's team.
Therefore, Mr. Kiet understands that winning against the Thai women's team is not easy.
“The professional gap between women's volleyball teams in Southeast Asia including Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia is gradually narrowing, so everyone is cautious and cannot predict anything,” coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet once said.
There is still a chance.
All teams participating in volleyball at the 33rd SEA Games have an equal chance of winning. The Vietnamese women's volleyball team has never won a Gold Medal at the SEA Games. We always lose to our direct opponent, the Thai women's team, in the final.
Vietnamese volleyball experts believe that the fact that the Thai women's volleyball team continuously changed head coaches and then invited veteran strategist Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai back shows that Thailand is being extremely cautious and does not want to make mistakes in its preparation strategy for the 33rd SEA Games.
On the contrary, Vietnamese women's volleyball has grown significantly. The Vietnamese women's volleyball team won third place at the 2024 FIVB Challenge Cup and previously ranked fourth at the 19th ASIAD, which confirms that Vietnamese players are not inferior to top opponents. When well organized and trained, Vietnamese players can absolutely compete excellently.
Vietnamese sports noted that in volleyball, we once won against the host team at the SEA Games in Thailand (SEA Games 2007, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team won against the Thai men's team in the semi-finals). However, the Thai women's volleyball team has many Asian-level hitters, so it is not easy to overcome them. The volleyball teams still have 11 months of professional preparation before participating in the 33rd SEA Games.
