Vietnamese football receives financial allocation from FIFA despite not participating in the World Cup

Although not participating in the 2026 World Cup, Vietnamese football is still in the group of member federations to which FIFA allocates financial resources from tournament revenue.

According to information from FIFA, at the Council meeting before the 76th Congress held in Vancouver (Canada), the world football governing body approved an increase of 15% of the total budget allocated to 48 teams participating in the 2026 World Cup, raising the total value to 871 million USD (about 22,949 billion VND).

Support levels for participating teams have been adjusted to increase in many categories. The preparation amount increased from 1.5 million USD to 2.5 million USD, while the qualifying round bonus increased from 9 million USD to 10 million USD. In addition, FIFA also supplemented cost support for the participating delegation and increased the number of tickets allocated to each team.

Notably, according to FIFA's financial allocation mechanism, the remaining revenue from the World Cup will continue to be reinvested in all 211 member federations. This means that football nations that do not participate in the tournament, including Vietnam, will still receive financial support.

According to some international sources, each member federation is expected to be guaranteed a support of about 5 million USD, and this figure may continue to be adjusted upwards after the latest decision.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized that the organization is in the stage of having the strongest financial foundation, thereby allowing the expansion of support programs to promote football development globally.
