Waiting for a breakthrough from Vietnamese badminton at the 33rd SEA Games

Hoài Việt |

Vietnamese badminton has a modest goal of winning a Bronze Medal at the 33rd SEA Games, although this is not an easy target to achieve.

Vietnamese badminton lost to Asian opponent

The 2025 Asian Badminton Championship ended on April 13 in China. Currently, members of the Vietnam Badminton Team have returned home and continue their professional training. The team participated in all 5 events including men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed-women's doubles.

This is the first international tournament in 2025 that the Vietnamese badminton team participated. Before the tournament, the Department of Badminton (Department of Sports) and the Vietnam Badminton Federation identified this as an important professional "reagent" to assess the strength of the players. However, the reality shows that the athletes stopped early from the first round.

We have 2 Olympic faces, Nguyen Thuy Linh (women's singles) and Le Duc Phat (men's singles) competing in the 2025 Asian Badminton Championship but losing in the first round. The Vietnam Badminton Team is gathering 17 players at Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports. They are the most experienced players in Vietnamese badminton.

However, Vietnamese badminton is lacking players with outstanding expertise, qualifications and Asian class. Nguyen Thuy Linh is the brightest player in Vietnamese badminton in international competition. However, in 4 consecutive competitions at the Asian Championship (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025), she stopped right at the first round of the women's singles event.

This year, Vietnamese badminton has an important goal of competing in the 33rd SEA Games. The team has targets and medal achievements. The coaching staff will strive to prepare and each player to compete in international tournaments this year to best prepare themselves" - General Secretary of the Vietnam Badminton Federation - Mr. Le Thanh Ha - once discussed.

Be careful

At the Asian Championship 2025, the Thai team won a gold medal, the Malaysian team won a gold medal, the Indonesian team had 2 bronze medals and the Singapore team had 1 bronze medal. The players who achieved the above achievement were almost certainly attending the 33rd SEA Games in December this year.

The strongest players of Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore have just competed in the 2025 Asian Badminton Championship. We also have some knowledge of their athlete force and predict that the competition at the 33rd SEA Games will be very fierce, said Mr. Khoa Trung Kien, representative of badminton (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports).

The Vietnam Badminton team will participate in all 7 events of this Congress (men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed-women's doubles, men's team, women's team).

The coaching staff puts the faith in success at the 33rd SEA Games in their hands. At this time, expert Hariawan (Indonesia) of Vietnamese badminton is closely following the training program to provide appropriate training plans for each tennis player to improve their expertise.

After the 2025 Asian Badminton Championship, Vietnamese badminton players will return to compete in many international tournaments in May 2025. Tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh was registered to participate in the tournaments in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore (from May 13 to June 1). Tennis players Le Duc Phat and Nguyen Hai Dang will have the opportunity to compete in Taiwan (China) from June 6 to May 11.
