Shy in real life but strong on the field
When we received a document from the Vietnam Volleyball Federation on giving opinions on the case of athlete Nguyen Thi Uyen being invited to join the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team, the leaders at all levels and the team's coaching staff unanimously agreed.
Uyen is a national player and that is an honor for me personally but also a source of pride for our team - coach Tran Van Giap of Geleximco Thai Binh Women's Volleyball Team discussed (player management unit Nguyen Thi Uyen).
After nearly 3 years of absence from the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team, Nguyen Thi Uyen was unexpectedly focused on the national team this year. Immediately, the hitter was able to compete and achieve a good scoring efficiency for the AVC Nations Cup 2025 International Women's Volleyball Tournament in Dong Anh (Hanoi).
When talking to Nguyen Thi Uyen, the female player always replied hesitantly. She is a person who has had some good smashes on the field, but in every daily conversation or sharing about herself, the female player is quite shy and somewhat shy.
I was not a sportsman by nature. When I was studying at a secondary school in my hometown of Dong Hung (Thai Binh), Thai Binh sports teachers, when they went to the national team, saw me so they invited me to check the basic exercises. I got over it and the coach invited me to try out volleyball. I still remember at that time, the teachers convinced my family to accept me to try. get used to it and be passionate about volleyball..., Nguyen Thi Uyen discussed.
Uyen said she has participated in many tournaments but rarely appears in the press because she does not know what to say. Because of her shy nature, the female player thought that she was red-faced when standing in front of the camera camera camera, so she was quite shy.
However, in professional training and volleyball competition, that shyness has completely disappeared. Instead, she is a strong and different person. Many coaches shared that Nguyen Thi Uyen was trained to play as a main striker, so she had to be strong to become the team's captain.
Friends and colleagues always recognize Nguyen Thi Uyen in her professional awareness as practicing hard, never afraid of difficulties in any situation, even when her team is behind.
Thai Binh 5-ton hometown brand
After the very famous seniors of Thai Binh Women's Volleyball such as Le Thi Muoi or Bui Thi Hue, Nguyen Thi Uyen is the most effective training product that the 5-ton hometown sport has introduced to Vietnam Women's Volleyball.
This year, she is 26 years old. However, Nguyen Thi Uyen has over 12 years of experience practicing and competing with volleyball and volleyball in the home team. "On the first day of practice, I was very awkward when I dropped the ball all the time. But when I can practice basic techniques well, I become more confident and get used to jumping, blocking, hitting the ball attack..., main striker Nguyen Thi Uyen shared.
The hitter recognizes that she is a native of Thai Binh and this is a place with a top tradition in volleyball, so she always maintains the most fiery spirit when competing for the national flag color. The memorial with her hometown team is most fully remembered by Nguyen Thi Uyen. One of the sad and unforgettable memories was the moment the Thai Binh Women's Volleyball Team was relegated in 2019.
No one wanted to mention that time. However, Nguyen Thi Uyen sees that it is a part of sports and each tournament helps each player (including her) mature. After that time, all Thai Binh Women's Volleyball players have tried harder to return strongly. A year later, competing in the A-class Volleyball Tournament, the Thai Binh Women's Volleyball Team flourished and won the right to return to the National Championship playground from 2021.
For me personally, competing with experienced seniors helps me learn and mature. I still remember when my hometown team was relegated, everyone was quite sad. However, no one was skeptical. Everyone believes that if they play to their full potential, they will definitely return to the National Championship. Right in the final match to win the A-Class Volleyball Championship in 2020, I cried a lot. I cried like a child because that was a happy feeling for the team, Nguyen Thi Uyen recalled.
Those tears of happiness once again rolled on Nguyen Thi Uyen's cheek in 2022 at Vinh Yen City Gymnasium (Vinh Phuc). At that time, she was one of the most effective domestic players and helped her teammates lead the Geleximco Thai Binh Women's Volleyball Team to the National Championship.
Everyone burst into joy when witnessing Thai Binh Women's Volleyball win the National Championship after 15 years of waiting. Nguyen Thi Uyen recalled: At that time, many journalists interviewed me. I don't know why in the moment of emotion with the home team's victory, I didn't feel any shy but answered very confidently in front of the camera lens".
Finding another medal at the 33rd SEA Games
Nguyen Thi Uyen is one of the unexpected cases that coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet focused on the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team in 2025. In addition, this main striker is trusted by Mr. Kiet to officially play in the AVC Nations Cup 2025 International Women's Volleyball Tournament taking place in Dong Anh (Hanoi).
Uyen is a new player in the team this year but is not really new to the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team. I was a player before but now we are focusing back. Uyen has integrated well with her teammates, however, the coaching staff also wants to adjust so that when competing, the players can achieve the best confidence, said coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet.
In 2022, the head coach of the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team at that time, Mr. Thai Thanh Tung, chose Nguyen Thi Uyen to participate in the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam. The player shared that the tournament was the first SEA Games in her career. At the end of the final match of the 31st SEA Games women's volleyball, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team lost 0 - 3 to Thailand and received the Silver Medal.
"I have tried hard to get into good form in 2024 and 2025, so when I have the opportunity to join the national team this year, I am very happy. I am determined to achieve the highest level of performance to qualify for the 33rd SEA Games because I always want to have a second chance to compete in this arena, Nguyen Thi Uyen revealed.
The Vietnam women's volleyball team has top attackers in the squad. Nguyen Thi Uyen is one of them. However, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet affirmed that all players must achieve the highest capacity before the coaching staff gives them the opportunity to play.
Nguyen Thi Uyen and her teammates understand that position competition is healthy, all based on each person's actual expertise. With a height of over 1m80, capable of boosting the momentum of attacking and hitting high balls, Nguyen Thi Uyen has never said she was satisfied with her expertise. The think tank, if you are not focused and prepare well professionally, will never achieve effective scoring results.
