From the Asian tournament to the 20th ASIAD

The coaching staff of the Vietnam Athletics Team has registered 16 athletes to participate in the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship. This year, the tournament will be held in Korea (match kicked off on May 27). However, members of the Vietnam Athletics Team will arrive in Korea early next week to have enough time to get acquainted with the field, competition venue and climate before the official competition.

The Asian Athletics Championship is organized by the Asian Athletics Confederation in a 2-year cycle. The most recent time it took place was in 2023 in Thailand, we won 1 Gold Medal (women's 4x400m relay) and 1 Bronze Medal (women's three-step dance event, athlete Nguyen Thi Huong).

"Of the 16 players participating in the Asian Championship 2025, we have a young face, have key athletes of the important content group.

In the 16 athletes coming to Korea this time, the squad of 4 main athletes in the women's 4x400m relay event including Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Hang, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh is named.

In addition to them, the number 1 face of the Vietnam Athletics Team, Nguyen Thi Oanh, was also registered to compete in 2 distances at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship. Some young athletes who will compete in the tournament are Bui Thi Kim Anh, Tran Thi Nhi Yen, Sam Van Doi...

With the regular organization every 2 years, the results of athletes' competition at the Asian Athletics Championship are considered by many teams as a measure of professional testing and grasping opponents before attending an important Sports Festival. ASIAD 20 will be held in 2026.

Therefore, experts fully predict that the top athletes in the continent will participate in this year's Asian Athletics Championship. Athletes do not want to miss the opportunity to fully grasp the opponents they may meet again at the 20th ASIAD.

The focus is still on the 33rd SEA Games

The Vietnamese athletics team has trained content groups at training locations in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Can Tho since January 2025.

"The important task of the Vietnamese athletics team in 2025 is to attend the 33th SEA Games in Thailand. We are still reviewing the squad to have the best face to attend the meeting. The team must reach the minimum target of 12 gold medals as available at the 32nd SEA Games 2023," the Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation - Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - exchanged.

The coaching staff of the Vietnam Athletics Team has certainly not confirmed that the 16 athletes participating in the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship will be those who have a place to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.

Athletes across the country will also participate in the 2025 National Championship in September 2025 and the results will be determined for those who have an official chance to compete in Thailand at the 33rd SEA Games.

Athletics is the most important and second most important sport in all of the SEA Games held. At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, the Thai team topped the athletics event with the best result of 16 Gold Medals.

The Vietnamese athletics team has the second place thanks to winning 12 championships, while the Indonesian athletics team has the third place with the highest achievement of 7 Gold Medals.
