The conclusion of the Ho Chi Minh City United Culture Culture Cup 2025 is considered a warm-up for short-distance athletes, helping to test their expertise after a long period of training.

National player maintains form

At the Ho Chi Minh City United Culture Cup 2025 Athletics Tournament, many national athletes of the short-distance group (100m, 200m; 100m hurdles) and some faces of the 400m event participated.

In turn, Huynh Thi My Tien (100m women's hurdles), Tran Thi Nhi Yen, Phung Thi Hue, Ha Thi Thu, Kha Thanh Truc (100m, 200m), Quach Thi Lan (400m, 400m hurdles), Tran Dinh Son, Le Ngoc Phuc (400m), Nguyen Duc Son (400m hurdles)... won medals in their events in the tournament.

Coach Vu Ngoc Loi, who is directly coaching the women's short-distance event team of the Vietnam Athletics Team, said: "occurring in Ho Chi Minh City is the first tournament this year that short-distance athletes will officially compete on the field. Each person competes to achieve results and above all, we consider this as a test to learn from each player's experience. Short-distance athletes of the Vietnam Athletics Team will carry out a number of international tasks in the near future".

Athlete Huynh Thi My Tien said: "We have prepared professionally since the beginning of the year, the competition in Ho Chi Minh City is suitable for the training cycle so that I and many athletes have a competitive feeling. Regardless of the tournament, athletes compete with the determination to achieve the best professional index".

The Athletics Cup of Ho Chi Minh City 2025 is not part of the national competition system. However, the athletes of the short distance group attended early identifying their achievement opportunities. Above all, the professional testing factor is the most important goal that has been set. After more than 3 months of training, the Vietnamese athletics player needs to play and the team coach has created conditions for them to play.

The 33rd SEA Games milestone has professional value

Vietnam Athletics is in the process of two responsibility for achievements including achieving results in the Asian arena and winning medals at the 33rd SEA Games.

At the 2023 Asian Athletics Championship, we won 1 Gold Medal (women's 4x400m relay) and 1 Bronze Medal (women's three-step dancing). Then, at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, the Vietnam Athletics Team had the best result of 12 Gold Medals in the events participating.

To affirm its position, Vietnamese athletics must regularly win medal results at the continental championship tournament. However, every year, Asian athletics in particular has changed significantly, so we also have to take a certain approach.

The SEA Games arena is where we will have regional competitors and the competitiveness also has its own value, said athletics expert Duong Duc Thuy (former head of the athletics department of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports.

In May this year, the Vietnam Athletics team will attend the Asian Championship 2025 in Korea. Then in December, we will attend the 33th SEA Games. These are the two most important and expected key players of the short distance group of the Vietnam Athletics team will participate in one after the award. The requirement is that the Vietnamese Athletics player ensures the gold medal when attending the Asian Championship Athletics 2025 (as it was in 2023).

The Vietnamese athletics team aims to win at least 12 Gold Medals at the 33rd SEA Games. Currently, the team is receiving professional training at locations in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho and Bac Ninh.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Nguyen - in charge of the athletics department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) - said that the 33rd SEA Games is an important tournament, but the team also did not miss the opportunity to affirm their achievements at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship.
