Investing in beach sports
Attending the preparatory meetings for the 2026 Asian Beach Games organized by the Asian Olympic Council (OCA), Representative of the Vietnam Olympic Committee - Mr. Tran Van Manh - once said that not only at the present time but for many years, countries in Asia have been focusing on investing in developing very well beach sports.
Many traditional sports competing in the gymnasium have been organized in beach events. The attraction of sports to combine tourism promotion and cultural development of many countries is being utilized and done well from this strategy" - a representative of the Vietnam Olympic Committee shared.
In 2024, Vietnam was the host of the 2024 World Teqball Championship held on the coast of Quy Nhon for the first time. At that time, Vietnamese audiences were still unfamiliar with this new sport. However, many tourists and many teqball teams from around the world were present to cheer and compete in the tournament, creating a unique attraction. This year, for the first time, Vietnam was given the opportunity to be the host of the 2026 World Beach Billiards Championship (expected to take place in May, in Da Nang).
General Secretary of the Vietnamese Wrestling Federation - Mr. Ta Dinh Duc - exchanged: "Being the host of the World Beach Wrestling Championship will bring many advantages. Firstly, the sport receives more attention from fans. Secondly, sports go hand in hand with the development of tourism, the tournament also adds opportunities to promote the development of Vietnam's sea landscapes.
Attend with high concentration
The 2026 Asian Beach Games (AYG 2026) will compete from April 22 to April 30. We send 90 members to participate, who will participate in competing in 8 official sports of the Games including handball, jujitsu, wrestling, traditional boat racing, swimming, athletics, sailing, teqball. Each sport has its own attraction in terms of professional competition, but above all, Vietnamese sports seize the opportunity to achieve the best medal achievements from here.
The most recent Asian Beach Games ever held before this year's tournament was in 2016 in Da Nang. At that time, Vietnam, as the host, brought the most attractive Asian Beach Games through previous times. The Vietnamese sports delegation ranked first at the 2016 Asian Beach Games with 52 Gold Medals, 44 Silver Medals and 43 Bronze Medals.
We are members of OCA, so Vietnamese sports has fully participated in the Asian Beach Games held (starting for the first time in 2008 in Indonesia). From the results of the 2016 Asian Beach Games, many sports delegations have assessed that Vietnamese sports has a certain advantage in the contents and sports of beach sports and has enough opportunities to develop strongly if invested methodically.
Representatives of the High-Performance Sports Department (Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam) said that the preparation of forces to participate in the 2026 Asian Beach Games has been carefully built since the beginning of 2026. Therefore, each selected coach and athlete will focus on completing the goal of achieving the set medal.
At the report on the 2026 work plan of the High-Performance Sports Department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) held in January 2026, Head of Department Hoang Quoc Vinh said that the competition of the Beach Sports Festival is not only of professional significance, winning achievements, but from here we learn more about the preparations of countries in the continent for the development of sports to be brought into competition at the beach in general.
