The standard chess event is the final competition event with 6 sets of medals including men's individual, women's individual, men's team, men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed doubles.

In which, player Tran Thanh Tan of Ho Chi Minh City won the men's individual championship when he defeated Tran Huu Binh (from Ho Chi Minh City) in the final.
In the women's individual standard chess event, chess player Ho Thi Thanh Hong (Gia Lai) defeated Nguyen Anh Dinh (HCMC) in the final to win a gold medal.
In addition to the men's individual championship results, Ho Chi Minh City chess also won gold medals in men's team and women's doubles.
In the women's doubles event, Ho Chi Minh City chess registered 3 players including Dam Thi Thuy Dung, Hoang Thi Hai Binh, Nguyen Hoang Yen who competed excellently past Quang Ninh team to win a gold medal. According to regulations, each team is allowed to register 2 official players and 1 reserve player in this event.
Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City Chinese chess team won 18 gold medals in rapid chess, blitz chess, and blitz chess.
