On the afternoon of August 13, regarding the penalty for the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team at the 2025 U21 World Cup, the leader of the Department of Physical Education and Sports said that he had grasped the information and directed the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) to work with the World Volleyball Federation (FIVB) on legality.
First of all, VFV needs to ensure compliance with procedures and processes, and fully comply with regulations to protect the rights and reputation of Vietnamese athletes and volleyball.
Earlier, on the same morning, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation also issued an official announcement related to this issue. VFV affirmed that it had complied with FIVB regulations on athlete registration procedures as well as submitted complete athlete documents to FIVB before the tournament.
"This dossier has been reviewed and approved by FIVB, allowing athletes to compete. However, the FIVB's decision on athletes who are not eligible to compete was based on the request to supplement documents and some conditions for athletes on August 12.
These are conditions that have not been previously regulated. Therefore, VFV is conducting an official complaint according to the FIVB process, and at the same time coordinating with competent authorities of Vietnam to clarify and protect the rights of athletes as well as the reputation of Vietnamese volleyball", the statement stated.
According to FIVB's decision, the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team was held to a 4th loss but did not cancel their admission to the tournament. However, this caused the team to be eliminated from the round of 16.
Coach Nguyen Trong Linh's students played on the afternoon of August 13 in the 17-24 ranking match and won 3-1 against U21 Egypt.
