“Life book” of Vietnamese sports

LÊ VINH |

On the last day of the year, I suddenly heard somewhere the song "At the end of the year, I sit down and calculate my life...". What is in the book of Vietnamese sports in 2024?

2024 can be considered a rough year for the sports industry in general, with shocking events. Many people still remember the incident where athlete Pham Nhu Phuong spoke out about financial issues in the gymnastics team, leading to 4 coaches being disciplined. Also a financial issue, the incident at the Khanh Hoa youth football team caused 2 coaches to not only be forced to quit their jobs but also have their files transferred to the police for investigation.

In terms of achievements, in 2024, Vietnamese sports won a total of 1,214 medals in the international arena (statistics of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). That is remarkable with the efforts of athletes and coaches in many sports, however, in the most important arena - the Olympics, Vietnamese sports returned in great sadness. There were no medals, the only bright spots were the 2 final events of Trinh Thu Vinh - the shooter voted the National Athlete of 2024.

In 2024, Vietnamese sports will continue to see where they are on the continental and world sports map, with ups and downs. The rise of the women's volleyball team is the most special mark, so it is not surprising that Bich Tuyen and her teammates were voted the Outstanding Sports Team of 2024.

Youth football had an unsuccessful year, women's football was quiet. In these final days of the year, the men's football team has regained some of the emotions lost over the previous 300 days. An early end to the Philippe Troussier era, the transition to coach Kim Sang-sik added to the already heavy disappointment among fans.

However, the ticket to the final of the ASEAN Championship 2024 can be considered an “apology” for fans to forgive and forget the problems of 2024. There is still the final - 2 matches, but at least, the ticket is also a farewell to the stormy year 2024, preparing to welcome the exciting year 2025, like the song "The old year has passed, may luck come to everyone to enjoy the spring love...".
