Nuclear power is not just an option but a requirement
On the afternoon of September 4, General Secretary To Lam and the Central Working Group visited and worked at the Vietnam Institute of Atomic Energy (Ministry of Science and Technology) on the results of activities and development orientations of the Institute in the new period.
Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the meeting. Also attending the meeting were Politburo member: Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc; General Luong Tam Quang - Minister of Public Security.
After listening to the opinions exchanged at the meeting and giving instructions, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that over nearly half a century, the Vietnam Institute of Atomic Energy has continuously matured, rising up and becoming a pioneer force in researching the application of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

For Vietnam, nuclear power is not only an option but an objective and urgent requirement to ensure national energy security, fulfill the commitment to carbon neutrality and create a breakthrough momentum for the country's industrialization and modernization.
The General Secretary suggested unifying a consistent strategic orientation, absolutely not exchanging safety for progress or scale, steadfastly building a safety culture as a foundation; at the same time, developing endogenous capacity to master each key component and international cooperation, according to the principle of co- design, co- manufacture, co-operation, co-management. Developing the application of nuclear energy must be a long-term strategy, requiring vision, perseverance and a comprehensive approach, from institutions, infrastructure, technology to people.
The General Secretary emphasized the orientations that need to be focused on, which is to identify nuclear energy development as a long-term strategic goal, of great importance and necessity in socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security.
The development of nuclear energy also contributes to enhancing the position and national stature. The construction and development of nuclear power must ensure absolute safety for people, the environment and society, strictly following the instructions of international nuclear power agencies.
Research on specific policies on wages and allowances
The General Secretary requested that it is necessary to continue to improve mechanisms and policies to create favorable conditions for developing the nuclear energy sector in accordance with the new situation; build a national program on nuclear technology and safety to ensure nuclear safety and security at international standards; build core scientific and technological capacity to deploy nuclear power and nuclear power applications proactively and sustainably, improve the capacity and coordination capacity on nuclear radiation safety of the Department of radiation Safety.

The General Secretary noted that it is necessary to develop high-quality human resources, technical standards, ensure inheritance and development for leading experts, attract domestic and foreign experts; study specific mechanisms and policies on salaries and allowances for those directly involved in nuclear energy and radi radi radiation safety; focus on research, access, gradually master and localize new and strategic technologies; strengthen international cooperation...
With a tradition of intelligence, a sense of responsibility and the desire for innovation, the General Secretary believes that the Vietnam Institute of Atomic Energy will work with ministries, branches, localities and the community of scientists to successfully carry out the task; requesting agencies to urgently specify each work, regularly inspect, urge, promptly remove difficulties, ensure every step is solid, transparent, effective, and absolutely safe for the benefit of the people, for the sustainable development of the country in the future.
