The Organizing Committee of the 2025 National Athletics Championship announced that there will be no case of any athletes competing to check their achievements.
The professional meeting before the tournament agreed on the competition content and the Organizing Committee ensured the rights of athletes according to the contract with the host unit.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Nguyen - Head of the Athletics Department, Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism - shared: "This year, the organizing committee strictly manages professional work. At the same time, Vietnam Athletics will remove the 24-month limit when athletes from the old unit move to the new unit.
10 years ago, the Vietnam Athletics Federation issued a specific regulation: From January 1, 2016, athletes who previously competed for one unit, now move to compete for another unit, must ensure that the transfer period is 24 months to be considered valid after 24 months to compete for the new unit. When the period expires, the units will issue an official dispatch requesting an extension of the card for the athlete. Athlete card valid for two years according to current athletics law".
The nearest athlete to comply with the above regulations and participate in the 2024 National Athletics Championship to check her achievements is Le Tu Chinh.
The reason is that Tu Chinh moved from the Ho Chi Minh City team to the Ca Mau team in 2023. Another athlete who had to comply similarly was Huynh Thi My Tien.
She left Vinh Long unit to move to Dong Nai in early 2023. However, this national athlete in the women's 100m hurdles event competed in the 2023 National Athletics Championship only to check her achievements.
At the 2024 National Athletics Championship, the Vietnam Athletics Federation has just allowed My Tien to compete for a medal.
From 2025 onwards, the Vietnam Athletics Federation must innovate to avoid disadvantages for athletes. Labor contracts between units and athletes are the basis for issuing competition cards.
If there are no complaints about disputes between the two units, athletes can compete immediately without having to wait 24 months.
In case the athlete changes the unit and there is a problem, the parties will consider the specific contract for the Athletics Federation to make a final decision.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation - added: "above all, we want to ensure the rights of athletes and management units so that unfortunate incidents do not happen."
The 2025 National Athletics Championship will compete in 50 sets of medals at Hoa Xuan Stadium (Da Nang) from August 9 to August 14. The tournament has 480 athletes from 32 units participating in the competition.
Last year, Hanoi led the medal results with the results of 8 gold medals, 5 silver medals, 5 bronze medals.
