How to compete at ASIAD 20
The Vietnam Athletics Team sent 17 athletes to the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship. At the end of the competition events, we won 1 Silver Medal (women's 4x400m relay) and 1 Bronze Medal (women's 100m event).
General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation Nguyen Manh Hung said that the athletes have made efforts to compete and the medal result is an impressive achievement. Nguyen Thi Oanh set a national record for the women's 5,000m event, Nguyen Trung Cuong broke the national record for the men's 3,000m hurdles - all of which are a preparation step for the upcoming major tournaments.
At the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship, the coaching staff of the Vietnam Athletics Team will especially consider the ability to compete and the correlation of our important athlete level in the women's 4x400m, short distance (100m, 200m) women's, 400m, 400m women's hurdles against continental opponents.
According to coach Vu Ngoc Loi ( Participating in the coaching staff for the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship), countries have identified the results of the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship as a key measure for professional testing so that their athletes can seize the opportunity for the 20th ASIAD.
The group of 10 leading countries on the total medal table at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship including China (19 Gold Medals), India (8), Japan (5), Kazakhstan (2), Qatar (2), Korea (2), Iran (2), Kuwait (1), Philippines (1) sent key forces to compete.
Vietnam Athletics did not win a Gold Medal in Korea, but we see that the opportunity for 2 specific events (women's 4x400m, women's 100m) is a good thing to predict the 20th ASIAD medal match.
Pressure on the 33rd SEA Games
General Secretary Nguyen Manh Hung added: After competing in the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship, Vietnamese athletes will continue to make more efforts to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games. We see some contents with significant competition.
On the track in Korea, the number 1 athlete in the Vietnam women's 100m hurdles, Huynh Thi My Tien, only achieved a speed of 13 seconds 69, ranking 7th in the final. She lost to Indonesian player Dina Aulia (13 seconds 32).
The Indonesian athletics determined that Dina Aulia was the main foot of the SEA Games 33 gold medal so it was certain that My Tien had a great competition for this opponent. At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, My Tien won a gold medal and Dina Aulia had a bronze medal. The Vietnam Athletics Team Training Board found that the young player Ta Ngoc Tuong still had to accumulate more. Despite many people interested and the media noticed, Ta Ngoc Tuong played under Korea and had 47 seconds, not enough to reach the final of 400m male.
Athlete Nguyen Thi Huong also had a modest result of 13m59 and was outside the group that won the women's three-step dance medal at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship. At the same time, Tran Thi Loan and Vu Thi Ngoc Ha are expected to have great results but have not had effective results in the women's long jump event.
For athlete Quach Thi Lan, she will face significant pressure at the upcoming 33rd SEA Games in the women's 400m hurdles. Lan reached a time of 57 seconds 04 and ranked 5th when competing in the women's 400m hurdles final in Korea recently.
In fact, she lost to Robyn Brown (Philippines, 56 seconds 98) who also competed in Korea. Two years ago, Robyn Brown won the Silver Medal in the women's 400m hurdles at the 32nd SEA Games with a time of 56 seconds and 51. We have won the women's 400m hurdles event achieved by Nguyen Thi Huyen (56 seconds 29). If Quach Thi Lan does not improve her index for about 56 seconds, it will be very difficult for her to reach the No. 1 position at the 33rd SEA Games.
