The Vietnamese weightlifting team received the first good news at the 2026 World Youth Championships when athlete K'Duong won a medal on the first day.

Weightlifter K'Duong ranked 3rd in the men's 60kg event at the 2026 World Youth Championships, which opened on the evening of May 2 local time in Egypt.

Competing in the men's 60kg weight class, K'Duong achieved a result of 125kg snatch and 157kg clean and jerk to have a total lift of 282kg. The above achievement helped K'Duong win a bronze medal in weightlifting at this year's tournament.

Competing in this event, the overall champion was weightlifter Kang Lixin (China) with a result of 290kg. Meanwhile, the silver medal belonged to weightlifter Kuang Chengmin with a result of 289kg.

On the opening day of the tournament, the Vietnamese Youth Weightlifting Team also had weightlifter Y Lien competing in the women's 53kg weight class, but she did not win a medal.

This year's tournament lasts until May 8. The Vietnamese youth weightlifting team only registered 3 athletes to participate and the goal is to strive for the best results. K'Duong's starting medal has been considered an encouraging achievement for Vietnamese athletes.

The 2026 World Youth Championship is the first international competition program of Vietnamese weightlifting this year. In May, the Vietnamese weightlifting team is expected to participate in the 2026 Asian Championship and will send the best force to compete for medals.
