The Vietnam Sports Administration and the Vietnam Weightlifting & Fitness Federation have signed a contract to hire Chinese experts, Mr. Li Shunzhu started working from March 15.
Expert Li Shunzhu used to hold the role of head coach of the Chinese weightlifting team from 2004 to 2008. During this period, the student of expert Li Shunzhu won an Olympic gold medal.
The Vietnamese weightlifting team continues to invite Chinese experts to work to improve expertise, focusing on the ASIAD 20 and the 2028 Olympic qualifiers.
Weightlifting of ASIAD 20 has announced 16 official weight classes held in September in Japan this year including 60kg, 69kg, 70kg, 75kg, 85kg, 95kg, 110kg and over 110kg (men); 49kg, 53kg, 57kg, 61kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg and over 86kg (women).
Expert Li Shunzhu and the coaching staff of the Vietnamese weightlifting team will prepare for some key athletes to prepare for ASIAD 20. In the schedule, Vietnamese weightlifting has never won a gold medal at the ASIAD arena.
Last year, the Vietnamese weightlifting team participated in training in China before competing at SEA Games 33 in Thailand.

The Vietnamese weightlifting team will begin professional training in 2026 at professional training points in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from January.
In May, the Vietnamese weightlifting team will compete in the 2026 Asian Championships.
