The coaching staff of the Vietnam Weightlifting Team said that some important weightlifters will be prepared to participate in the 2026 World Championships held in China in October this year.
The 2026 World Championship is the first competition to calculate the achievement of awarding a 2028 Olympic spot, thereby organizing weight classes including: 65kg, 75kg, 85kg, 95kg, 110kg, over 110kg (men) with 53kg, 61kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg and over 86kg (women).
The World Weightlifting Federation stipulates that each weight class has only 10 best athletes to be officially qualified for the 2028 Olympics. The 2028 Olympic qualifiers for weightlifting will last until 2028.
The Vietnamese weightlifting team has returned to training in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. At the training point in Hanoi, coach Nguyen Manh Thang was assigned the role of head coach, while in Ho Chi Minh City, coach Duong Thi Bich Tuyen is the head coach.
Many weightlifters who participated in SEA Games 33 of Vietnamese weightlifting are focusing on training in 2026. Among them, SEA Games 33 champion Tran Dinh Thang is named.
In April, the Vietnamese weightlifting team will participate in the 2026 Asian Championships in India. This is the first international tournament of Vietnamese athletes to re-examine expertise as well as strive for the best results. The coaching staff of the Vietnamese Weightlifting Team will grasp more opponents from the 2026 Asian Championships to review before ASIAD 20.
Weightlifting of ASIAD 20 will take place in September in Japan. After ASIAD 20, the Vietnamese weightlifting team will enter the 2026 World Championships.
