The tournament was organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with the Vietnam Chess Federation.
This year's tournament took place from April 2 to 8, attracting nearly 140 players from many provinces and clubs such as Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Kien Giang, Bac Giang, Hoa Phuong Thu Do club...
The players will compete in 3 competitions including chess, fast chess and standard chess for male and female players and U11, U16, U20 age groups and the championship event (no age classification).
"This year's tournament has a record number of players and participating delegations, the largest ever. In addition to having all the best players in Vietnam today, the tournament also has many young faces.
We expect to find new talents through this tournament, said Mr. Nguyen Minh Thang, Permanent Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Chess Federation.
According to Mr. Minh Thang, Vietnam's national flag is currently in the top 4 in the world, behind Japan, Korea, and China. However, the number of athletes in this sport is still small.
The leaders of the sport hope that through large-scale, professional tournaments, more localities will develop the national chess championship.
