Coach Shin Tae-yong banned from football activities in South Korea for 10 years

Coach Shin Tae-yong was banned by the KFA from participating in football activities in South Korea for 10 years after the incident related to Ulsan HD players.

The Korean Football Association (KFA) has applied a strict disciplinary measure to coach Shin Tae-yong, banning him from participating in football activities in Korea for a period of 10 years after the incident related to allegations of violence against players while still leading Ulsan HD.

According to South Korean media, the KFA Disciplinary Committee completed the review process from the beginning of July and officially announced the decision to Mr. Shin Tae-yong. Due to regulations on personal information security, the KFA did not disclose details of the handling file, but confirmed that this is a severe disciplinary measure.

The penalty includes suspending his coaching license and banning Mr. Shin Tae-yong from participating in football activities on Korean territory for 10 years. Previously, the country's media said that the KFA had considered a permanent ban from practicing before making a final decision.

The root cause of the incident stemmed from the time Mr. Shin Tae-yong led Ulsan HD from August to October 2025. At that time, this coach was accused of slapping veteran center-back Jung Seung-hyun in a meeting with the team, causing internal Ulsan HD to fall into crisis. After a series of unsatisfactory performances, he was terminated his contract by the team in October 2025.

By the end of 2025, Jung Seung-hyun first spoke out about the incident. This player said that the actions of the former Indonesian national team coach are not suitable for modern football and emphasized that any behavior that makes others feel hurt can be considered violent.

According to Korean media, the KFA ban is only valid within the scope of football activities in Korea. Therefore, this decision does not directly affect Shin Tae-yong's current job at Persija Jakarta club (Indonesia), where he signed a contract in June 2026. Up to now, the 55-year-old strategist has not yet made an official comment on the disciplinary action.
