Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee of the tournament emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City is honored to be chosen to host this global tournament.
The tournament is an important step in developing sports, enhancing cultural values, and at the same time, through the tournament, it will contribute to the Vietnamese people in general and the people of Ho Chi Minh City in particular to better understand this powerful, beautiful and attractive sport.
"The 2024 Teqball World Championship is not simply a sports competition, it is an opportunity for countries and peoples to exchange, connect and share the good values of sports - a field that always carries within it the spirit of solidarity, respect, fairness and civilization," said Ms. Dieu Thuy.
Teqball was only born in 2014 but is considered the fastest growing sport in the world, present in more than 140 countries and territories, and recognized by many Olympic Committees of many continents.
The Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that through this event, the Teqball movement will be developed more widely across the country.
"We are committed to continuing to create favorable conditions for young generations and sports-loving communities to participate in and develop this sport. And I believe that after this event, Teqball will become an indispensable part of the sports movement of Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam," Ms. Dieu Thuy shared.
Hungarian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Gabor Lehőcz shared: "We believe that the championship will further enhance the city's global reputation through the participation of international athletes and enthusiastic fans.
The 2024 Teqball World Championship is an important event in sports diplomacy and in the extremely successful bilateral relationship over the past 75 years between Vietnam and Hungary.”
He also stressed that this is the biggest Teqball tournament ever and promises to attract a large number of international fans, with coverage from EuroSport and EPSL television channels.
The 2024 Teqball World Championship will take place from December 4 to 8, at Nguyen Hue Walking Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Athletes will compete in 5 events: Men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. A total of 301 matches will be held within the framework of the tournament.
The Vietnamese team has 9 athletes participating, becoming the largest delegation. With careful preparation, the Vietnamese team is expected to create a highlight in this year's tournament.
