The BWF World Badminton Federation announced a new ranking on September 16. Nguyen Thuy Linh has increased by 1 rank, holding 17th place in the world.
Tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh became the first female badminton player in Vietnam to hold the above position. Previously, tennis players Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung and Vu Thi Trang have won many international achievements but have never held the world 17th position.
Nguyen Thuy Linh has just won the women's singles runner-up position at the 2025 Vietnam Open International Badminton Tournament in Ho Chi Minh City. Currently, she is participating in the 2025 Masters International Tournament held from September 16 to September 21 in China.
This is a BWF World Tour Super 750 level tournament for badminton in the world. Nguyen Thuy Linh will meet opponent Yeo Jia Min (Singapore) in the first match.
Also on the BWF rankings announced on September 16, tennis player Vu Thi Trang has dropped 7 places, ranking 138th in the world. This tennis player participated in the 2025 Vietnam Open International Badminton Tournament but did not make it to the semi-finals.
The coaching staff of the Vietnam Badminton Team said that players Nguyen Thuy Linh and Vu Thi Trang were registered to compete in the women's singles event at the 33rd SEA Games. From now until before going to Thailand, the players will practice and compete in a number of tournaments to accumulate expertise.
