In the opening match of Group G, 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship, Germany beat Kenya 3-0 (25-22, 25-8, 25-20). But this was not an easy victory for the European team.
Sharing on the German Volleyball Federation's homepage, coach Giulio Bregoli said: "We are clearly happy to win our first match. We are in the world championship, so we cannot expect easy matches. We have gone through too many ups and downs, but we are still calm. The opening victory was very important for us."
Meanwhile, captain Camilla Weitzel assessed that the Kenyan team had brought many surprises to the German team, because the two teams had not met before.
It took us a while to get used to their game in the first set. They defend well and attack strongly. But I am proud of how we adapt and find the rhythm. After that, we played very confidently and showed our mental strength, especially in the decisive minutes of the third set, Weitzel shared.
In the second match of Group G, Germany will meet Vietnam women's volleyball. In the opening match, the Vietnam team lost 1-3 to the world third-placed team Poland. But winning a set against a top team in the world is also an encouraging point for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team.
We will focus on each match and always try our best, because, as I said, there are no easy matches at the world tournament, coach Bregoli shared before the match against Vietnam women's volleyball.
The German women's volleyball team is currently ranked 11th in the world, 11 places ahead of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. According to information from the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), the German team has participated in 17 previous Women's Volleyball World Cups, and their best result to date is the fourth place achieved in 1974 and 1986. Earlier this year, Germany finished seventh in the Nations League.
At the world tournament in Thailand, the German team of Italian coach Giulio Bregoli will rely heavily on the middle blocker and captain of the 25-year-old Camilla Weitzel, libero Anna Pogany, the main attackers are Lina Alsmeier, Lena Stigrot and the middle blocker Marie Scholzel.
They are the most experienced factor of the European team. However, the German women's volleyball team also lacks two stars due to injuries, setter Pia Kastner and libero Annie Cesar.
On the side of the Vietnam women's volleyball team, the team also does not have the strongest force when opposite setter Bich Tuyen does not participate in the tournament for personal reasons. The team will rely on many stars such as Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Bich Thuy, Kieu Trinh...
The Vietnam vs Germany women's volleyball match will take place at 5:00 p.m. on August 25.
