On the morning of April 17, Tran Thi Nhi Yen won the gold medal quite easily in the 100m distance. With stable performance, she aims to complete her double title at the tournament by conquering an additional 200m distance. However, in the afternoon of the same day, she unexpectedly let the victory slip away to a young opponent from Binh Thuan.

On the District 8 Stadium track, Hoang Thi Anh Thuc showed a strong breakthrough and finished with a time of 24 seconds 176. This achievement is only a thousand seconds better than Tran Thi Nhi Yen. The spectacular sprint brought Thuc the first gold medal at this tournament and affirmed the presence of a new talent in the Vietnamese women's athletics community.
Hoang Thi Anh Thuc was born in 2005 in Binh Thuan. She won the gold medal in the 400m distance at the 2022 U18 Asian Championship and is considered a potential athlete. Although she did not participate in the 400m freestyle event at this tournament, she still created a big shock when she overcame many strong opponents at the 200m distance such as Ha Thi Thu and Tran Thi Nhi Yen.

In other events on April 17, Quach Thi Lan continued to affirm her position when she won 2 consecutive gold medals in the 400m and 400m hurdles. With a time of 59 seconds 38 in the 400m hurdles, she is still the top hope of the Vietnam women's team ahead of the 33rd SEA Games scheduled to take place in December.
