Omar Berrada will leave his role as CEO of City Football Group - the owner of Manchester City - to join Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Old Trafford revolution. Berrada started a new job this summer.
Ratcliffe has previously agreed to buy a 25% stake in Man United from the Glazers for £1.3 billion, although the deal still needs Premier League approval. The British billionaire will take charge of football operations at Old Trafford after the deal is approved.
Berrada was tasked with getting the Red Devils back to the top of European football. They have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and are currently 7th in the rankings, 16 points behind leaders Liverpool.
Here are some of the big tasks Berrada has to take on to turn the tide of Man United.
Selling or releasing some players
Man United started cleaning up the squad this January. Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek have joined Dortmund and Frankfurt on loan.
Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane both have expired in June, but M.U could activate a 12-month extension. Although Martial and Varane are only 28 and 30 years old, both have their own problems.
Casemiro, who joined Old Trafford from Real Madrid in a £70 million deal, should also leave. The 31-year-old was just a shadow of himself before and was not the answer to Ten Hag's problems. Berrada must find a way to get rid of Casemiro.
Another player who will be considered for a sell-off is Mason Greenwood. Having played well for Getafe on loan, the chance for Greenwood to return to Man United is not high. Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Getafe are all pursuing the 22-year-old's signature.
Some other players who do not perform well enough in the coming time should also be considered such as Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Antony, Mason Mount, Andre Onana and facundo Pellistri.
In short, Berrada needs to rebuild Man United's squad. Of course, they will not be able to recover all the invested money, but they should not hesitate.
Remodeling Ten Hag's contract
If Ten Hag remains Man United's manager, his contract will need to be revised. That is because Ten Hag currently has the right to deny all transfers.
Recent reality shows that Ten Hag is not a smart coach in the transfer market. Antony has never looked like a £82 million player, while the loan of Wout Weghorst has so far brought many doubts. And is Andre Onana really an upgrade for David de Gea?
Ten Hag had put his trust in players involved in the Dutch national championship and that plan was ineffective. Therefore, it is better for Ten Hag to focus only on his expertise.
Finding the right player
Speaking of transfers, Berrada has played a huge role in building a successful Man City squad. He is said to have convinced Erling Haaland, who turned down Real Madrid and Barcelona to go to the Etihad.
Berrada said last year: "A player like Haaland could have chosen any top team in Europe. Almost all top teams are interested in his signature. For us, it's understanding what's going to motivate him.
He wants to have a good football project. We spent a lot of time explaining the football project. He is a strong character and the decision was made by him. But it's clear that his father used to play for Man City and has a good relationship."
That transfer experience will be invaluable for Man United this summer. Berrada has played a key role in Man City's transfer business since being promoted to the role of CEO of football in 2016.
Over the past 8 years, Man City has recruited a number of top players such as Ruben Dias, Jeremy Doku, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Julian Alvarez, Manuel Akanji, Josko Gvardiol and Ederson. Other Premier League sides are interested in these stars, but Berrada is a successful convincer.
Berrada will certainly have the same convincing power at Old Trafford in the future.
