Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic registered to compete in mixed doubles at the US Open 2026. They lead the list of 16 newly announced pairs before the fourth Grand Slam and also the last tournament in 2026.
Among the other pairs are Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, while Mirra Andreeva will compete with Andrey Rublev.
Sabalenka has only competed once in mixed doubles at the Grand Slam, which was at Wimbledon in 2019 with Rohan Bopanna.
The world No. 1 female tennis player was expected to participate in the US Open last year, but she and Grigor Dimitrov withdrew in this event. The Belarusian tennis player then won the women's singles championship.
Her new teammate, Djokovic, who is aiming for a record of 25 Grand Slam singles titles, made his debut in the mixed doubles event at the US Open 2025.
At that time, Nole - along with compatriot Olga Danilovic - lost in the first round at Flushing Meadows.
Top male tennis players Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will not participate in this event at this year's tournament.
In fact, the US Open 2025 has witnessed a change in the schedule, leading to the mixed doubles event being held earlier.
Instead of competing in the main round, this event took place the previous week and was called the Mixed Doubles Championship.
The tournament was reorganized to include superstars pairing with each other, while expert doubles teams were eliminated.
Last year, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori won the championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
They defeated Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud in a tie-break to win the $1m (£750,000) prize money.
This schedule continues to be applied to the 2026 tournament with a different scoring method.
The matches will be played in a 3-set win-4 game format, a decrease compared to the usual 6-game format.
In addition, there will be no advantage points and instead of the third set as usual, the players will play a 10-point tie-break.
However, in the final, sets will be played up to 6 games, with a 10-point tie-break also replacing the third set.
This year, the US Open Men's and Women's Doubles Championship will take place from Monday, August 24 to Wednesday, August 26 during "Fan Week".
Men's and women's singles matches start on Sunday, August 30th and last until Sunday, September 13th.
