On November 12, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) held a conference to deploy the Strategy for Developing Sports in Vietnam to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
In his opening speech, Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: "Based on the summary of Resolution No. 08 and the Strategy for the development of physical training and sports in Vietnam until 2020, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has proposed to build a new strategy that inherits the achievements of the past period, promotes positive aspects, overcomes limitations, sets out orientations, goals, tasks and appropriate development solutions in the coming period.
On October 15, 2024, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1189/QD-TTg promulgating the Sports Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The Strategy is a new step forward, marking a shift in the country's approach to sports development.
This is also the legal basis for attracting investment, allocating resources; exploiting and maximizing potentials and strengths to realize the goal of "Building a sustainable and professional sports development" by 2045.
At the Conference, delegates representing the Departments of Culture and Sports in localities presented papers.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - Nguyen Director of the Department of High Performance Sports - said: "Participating in the SEA Games has a negative side: dependence on the hosting countries. We will be scattered in terms of strength and achievements if we depend on it.
Regarding strategy, there is one issue I would like to suggest: we should not aim for top 2 or top 3 on the medal table, but instead strive to be the top SEA Games in ASIAD and Olympic sports such as weightlifting, shooting, archery, athletics...".
Mr. Hong Minh emphasized that to do that, it is necessary to unify the competition system of the sports and contents at the Sports Festival, starting from training in the localities. The Sports Festival needs practical adjustments, not changes to a larger scale. Through the Festival, we can select athletes to prepare for international competitions.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City shared: "In terms of strategy, Ho Chi Minh City strives to bring sports into life. First of all, it is to encourage the national sports movement, integrate with international sports to affirm national identity. At the same time, encourage the private sector to invest in sports services, create jobs, and turn Ho Chi Minh City into a major sports center of Southeast Asia.
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City strives to increase the rate of socialized sports from the current 20% to 50% by 2035; develop investment policies for businesses in sports, encourage the construction of private sports clubs; focus on building sports complexes, upgrading stadiums to meet training and competition needs."
According to Mr. Nam Nhan, Vietnamese sports face challenges from the allocation of budget resources. Without appropriate projects, infrastructure, and policies for mutual benefit between businesses and the state, the private sector may not actively participate in sports.
Therefore, it is necessary to remove investment difficulties from central, local and socialized budget sources and form a national sports training center to share the burden with the central government.
