On the afternoon of November 13, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong chaired a working session at the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports to review the plan to attend the 33rd SEA Games
Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - Deputy Director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam - said that in the past time, the Department has coordinated with relevant units to organize training for about 1,800 athletes at centers and localities. The meal allowance for athletes on the SEA Games list has also been increased to 480,000 VND/day according to regulations.

According to preliminary registration, the Vietnam Sports delegation will compete in 47 sports. Coaches and department heads all reported on the training process, medal targets and athlete performance. Currently, the teams are speeding up preparation, most of them practice two sessions per day, some teams even maintain training all weekend to achieve the highest efficiency.
Among the key sports, athletics and shooting are considered to have many improvements.
Athletics aims for 12 or more gold medals, especially expected in the 100m and 4x100m events for young athletes who have been trained over the past 2 years. Although many faces attended the Congress for the first time, they were assessed to be able to compete for gold medals.
The shooting team is also completing the final preparation phase. The Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports coordinates with military and police units to ensure training equipment, each key athlete is equipped with 3 guns and a sufficient number of bullets. Shooters who have competed at the ASIAD and Olympics such as Trinh Thu Vinh, Le Thi Mong Tuyen, Pham Quang Huy will continue to participate. The team's goal is to win about 7 gold medals.

After listening to the reports, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong and the leaders of the Department of Physical Education and Sports analyzed, reviewed the entire plan and agreed on a common target for the Vietnam Sports Delegation of about 100 gold medals.
Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Minh emphasized: Sports and coaching staff need to continue to stick to the plan, implement the set targets, but should not put pressure on athletes. We need to create a comfortable mentality, helping them feel secure in practicing and competing".
In his speech, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong requested: "There is not much time left until the 33rd SEA Games, so all preparations must be carried out urgently, in detail and thoroughly. For the heads of departments, head coaches need to clearly disseminate the content of work to effectively implement and ensure the completion of targets.
The functional departments of the Department must closely coordinate with centers and training boards, focus on training and scientific performance in organization, while enhancing responsibility in health care, nutrition and living conditions for athletes".
The 33rd SEA Games took place right at the time when the whole country was looking forward to the 14th National Congress of the Party. The Deputy Minister affirmed that this is an opportunity for the Sports industry to compete to achieve achievements to welcome the Congress, continue to make efforts and break through to successfully complete the goals set by the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.
Vietnamese sports need to strive to overcome all difficulties, not citing objective reasons, striving to win about 100 gold medals, making achievements to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Party, the Deputy Minister emphasized.
